ASPIRING INTERIOR DESIGNER
Driven by my passion for creativity, and my desire to create something tangible using my artistic side, I am pursuing a career in interior design, specializing in residential spaces. My goal is to transform houses into homes by seamlessly blending aesthetics, practicality, and functionality to reflect each client’s unique vision and lifestyle.
I’m currently a part-time, online student at the New York School of Interior Design, where I’m building my skills and knowledge in design. I’m eager to gain hands-on experience through an internship with a design or architecture firm. This opportunity would allow me to further develop my expertise and move closer to my dream of becoming a residential interior designer. Check out my school work!
CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS
This course introduced me to the preparation of construction documents, focusing on foundational CAD drafting skills using AutoCAD. I began by learning drafting conventions such as line weights, sheet organization, and drawing standards while developing an understanding of how to create plans, elevations, sections, and details for a small residential or commercial interior project.
As the course progressed, I explored basic AutoCAD tools and workflows, gaining the ability to produce accurate and organized construction drawings. By the end of the course, I confidently applied graphic conventions, understood drawing set structure, and learned how to document interior spaces using industry-standard practices.
COLORS FOR INTERIORS
This studio course concentrates on the study of color and color schemes for interiors. Compilation of the Munsell Color Charts is the basis for a series of projects which led to the development of complete color schemes. Psychological and practical influences affecting the choice of color were studied. Using gouache paints, colors for walls, floor coverings, window treatments, upholstery, accessories, and accent areas were selected and applied to a variety of room settings.
Through research and analysis, I developed an understanding of the relationship of color to the various elements of the built environment and its role in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the end-user.
BASIC DRAFTING
This course introduced me to fundamental drafting techniques, focusing on both hand drafting and AutoCAD skills. The first half of the course emphasized hand drafting, teaching the use of tools, line weights, and graphic conventions while integrating freehand sketches into precise drawings.
In the second half, I explored basic AutoCAD, developing the ability to create scaled floor plans, elevations, sections, and other technical drawings. By the end of the course, I confidently documented interior spaces and represented architectural elements with professional accuracy.
VISUAL CONCEPTS / DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS
In this course, I’m exploring the fundamentals of visual design, including spatial organization, relationships, emphasis, and contrast—key principles in creating balanced and cohesive interior spaces. Each module requires craftsmanship, sketching, and creativity through weekly composition projects.
HISTORICAL STYLES
In Historical Styles I, we looked at Western design from antiquity to about 1820, focusing on how styles developed and changed across Europe, and eventually America. In Historical Styles II, we explored the major design movements of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and ended by looking at how design evolved to bring us into our contemporary world. Both courses emphasize how cultural, political, and social pressures shaped style and design.
HOME PROJECT: COMING SOON
I'm putting my skills and knowledge to practice! Welcome to Talia's home office. I carefully considered the type and placement of each furniture piece to ensure the environment feels balanced, comfortable, and inspiring throughout the day. More to come soon!
