Attention all fashionistas, the dad shoe is back, and it is chicer than ever!
My mom once told me that shoes draw the whole outfit together, and I have to agree with her. As an avid shopper, I am always looking for new shoes to add to my wardrobe.
A particular trend that has recently caught my eye are dad sneakers. Yes, DAD SNEAKERS! There’s something about the ‘chunky’ shoe that I cannot resist.
Dad sneakers originated in the 1980s and 1990s, and can you take a guess who began this trend first? Dads were first spotted wearing this style as a sport shoe; but now the tables have turned.
This style that was once considered a ‘sport’ shoe, is now a casual streetwear sneaker that adds a fun element to any outfit!
Observing iconic styles that make a comeback is one of my favorite things about fashion. Fashion is constantly evolving, and you never know what is going to become a trend again; but thanks to celebrities and influencers, they create a significant impact on the styles we adopt.
I recently bought a pair of Fila’s Disruptor II Sneakers that I’ve been eyeballing for quite some time. Not only is the shoe a unique take on sneakers, but it also acts as a versatile platform shoe.
You can pair the sneakers with biker shorts, classic denim jeans, or anything you want—because that’s what fashion is all about, right? Putting together garments, accessories, and shoes to express who you are!
No matter what brand, color, or style of dad sneaker you choose, your fashion statement will have a powerful voice.
To end my spiel on why dad sneaks are cool, I want to take a moment and reflect: Prior to graduating this past May, I took my last fashion class over our winter break. One of our group projects required us to make a presentation of clothing items and/or shoes that we considered a fad, a long-term trend, or a classic. Looking back at our project, we chose dad sneakers as one of our fad items; but I am starting to rethink that they may be a classic.
What do you think?
